Kathleen
Riggs
Apr 17, 1949 — May 27, 2024
Kathleen W. Riggs, of Novi, MI, passed away on May 27, 2024, at the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit due to complications from Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She was 75 years old.
Kathy was born in Detroit, MI, to the late Richard and Madeline Warner. A graduate of Grosse Pointe High School and the University of Michigan, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Steve Riggs for 53 years. Together, they raised three children: Mark (Tara), Josh (Leslie), and Julie. She was "Nama" to Carlenn, Jacob, Katie, Nathan, Anna, Adrianna, Scott, and Julia, and a proud great-grandmother to Anastasia and Ja'Keem.
When asked over the years for her occupation, Kathy would proudly say "Mom." Nothing pleased her more than to spend time with her family. From puzzles and card games, to baking with the young ones, Disney trips or trips to the zoo, any activity that gathered family together was her favorite activity! She especially loved to spend time "Up North" making memories at Lake Mitchell near Cadillac, MI. Most mornings there you could find her taking a lap around the lake on her wave runner...and then another lap with a grandchild aboard…and then another lap with a grandchild until the line was exhausted. On each of those visits to the lake, she took care of everyone and every detail to ensure that all had a memorable time. Of course, she always insisted on a family picture. She was an expert knitter and crocheter, creating sweaters, blankets, toys, Christmas stockings, baby items and more, for countless friends and family. And she loved to read and watch movies.
Kathy lived a life of faith and served for many years as a children's leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). She loved her friends at BSF and was grateful to be able to take her "local" grandkids (and one great grandbaby!) to bible study with her.
Her bright blue eyes and infectious loving smile will be sorely missed.
Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial gathering at Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in Farmington, MI, on Sunday, July 21, from 12-4pm. A ceremony honoring Kathy's life will commence at 2:00 pm. Plan to join the family for food after the ceremony.
