Obituary

Kathleen Margaret McCarthy passed away peacefully after a long and brave battle with lung cancer. She faced her illness with strength and grace, always finding joy in her family and the simple things she loved.

Kathie was born March 13, 1959, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the daughter of  Ronald and Elizabeth Watson.

Kathie had a passion for photography, especially capturing sunsets and the beauty of the outdoors. She enjoyed boating, arts and crafts, Hallmark Christmas movies, Dateline, and listening to Taylor Swift and Kid Rock. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness.

She was incredibly proud of her children. Her son Mikey served courageously in the U.S. Air Force, and her daughter Laura not only excelled as a devoted mother but also lovingly cared for her during the past two years. Kathie also shared a special bond with her teddy bear dog, Murphy, who was always by her side.

Kathie met the love of her life, Kerry "Kare Bear" Steele, as a teenager. Their paths crossed throughout the years until 2008 when they finally reunited and moved in together. They shared many wonderful memories, including their time at their home in Florida, which Kathie loved dearly.

Kathie will be remembered for her strength, creativity, and love for her family. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Kathie is survived by her loving partner, Kerry Steele; dear children, Laura Barber and Michael Barber; adored grandchildren, Ameera and Aaliyah; and beloved siblings, David Watson, Debbie Merriman, and Gail Stanton. She was preceded in death by her dear brother, Gary Watson.

A celebration of Kathie's life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Please contact Laura at (248)918-6002 for more details.

Please keep Kathie and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
