Kathleen S.
Lewis
May 31, 1944 — Sep 11, 2024
Kathy, of Farmington Hills, a beloved sister, aunt and friend, entered into eternal life at home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the age of 80. Born May 31, 1944, in Cleveland, Kathy was the daughter of the late Raymond and Rita (Miller) Shade. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl, on November 1, 2009.
Kathy was the epitome of organization, hard work, and devotion, qualities that she displayed throughout her life, including her many years working for IBM. She often joked that "IBM" stood for "I've Been Moved," having started her career in Cleveland before relocating to the Detroit area in 1974, where she eventually retired in 1997.
Despite a fear of dogs, Carl convinced her to raise leader dog puppies, a decision that sparked her enduring love for furry companions, especially her cherished dogs Ladd, Dustin, and KC. This unexpected passion brought joy and comfort to her life, and she treasured the bond she formed with these loyal animals.
Kathy was known for her thoughtfulness and empathy, always reaching out to family and friends with heartfelt cards, phone calls and emails. She had a special talent for remembering significant dates, such as the anniversaries of friends' loved ones' passing, and offered her support on those days, ensuring no one ever felt alone in their grief.
After Carl's passing, Kathy was truly heartbroken and faced some of the most difficult years of her life, but she remained resilient and found solace in volunteering at her church office and offering her time to others.
Kathy will be remembered for her gentle heart, her love for her family, and her enduring strength in the face of life's challenges. Her kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness touched many lives, and she will be dearly missed.
Kathy is survived by her brother, Ron (Temmie) Shade, her sister, Laura (Mike) O'Connor, nieces, Stacey (Russ) Ware, Stephanie Shade, and Mary (Chris) Smith, a nephew, James (Rachelle) O'Connor, great-nieces and nephews, Chloe, Elijah, Abbey, Les, Brie and Bren, as well as countless friends who cherished her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind , 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307.
Family and friends may gather at Heeney-Sundquist for visitation on Thursday, September 26, from 4-8 pm.
Kathy's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, September 27, at 11:00 am, at St. Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Road, Farmington.
Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, will follow the luncheon.
Kindly keep Kathy and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
