Obituary

Karen L. MacIver, age 65, of Livonia, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield.

She was born June 11, 1956, in Detroit, the daughter of William John and Marilyn Jean (McKissick) McIlrath, Jr.

Surviving are her children, Kim (Matt) Madden, Dan (Veronica) MacIver, Tim (Elisha) MacIver and Becky (Tony) Kales; grandchildren, Kameron, Ashlyn, Kaylee, Trevor, Kelsey, Marissa, Madison, Jessica, Nico and Ellie; loving former spouse, Steve MacIver; in-laws, Penny McIlrath, Linda (Vince)Maylone, Karen Gidley, Lori (Bill) Nagy, Patti (Jerry) O'Chel and Robert (Carla) MacIver; aunts and uncles, Beverly Hallonen, Kathy Ronald and Mike (Pat) McIlrath; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John William McIlrath.

Karen always put her family and friends first and especially loved being there for all of her kids and grandkids.  You would always find her at the school events and attending her grandkids games and award ceremonies. Her favorite hobby was traveling and she loved finding great deals on tropical vacations with her friends and family. Our annual family spring break trip was a tradition she looked forward to each and every year. The grandkids even created presentations to show her all of their ideas for where to go that year. She loved quilting and always looked forward to the next quilt camp with her bestest of friends.

Karen knew no strangers.  Whoever she met, she welcomed them with a smile and knew everything about them within a few minutes. Karen was always the life of the party and was the first to arrive and the last to leave.  She truly never wanted the party to end. Her limitless energy was contagious and her smile lit up any room and she always lived life to the absolute fullest.  She was the most selfless person you could ever meet and she was always willing to help anyone in need.  Everyone was always welcome at her house for good conversation.

Karen was the face of Clarenceville School District for decades.  As the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, she was the first face a new parent, student, or teacher would see. Her kind heart, dedication, and knowledge made anyone feel right at home. She cared for the students like they were her family and they still remember Mrs. MacIver to this day for her love and support.

Karen's family will receive guests on Monday, December 20th, 2-8 pm, at the funeral home.

A funeral service is planned for 10:00am on Tuesday, December 21 st , also at the funeral home.
