Julia L.
Olsen Davis
Oct 24, 1944 — Nov 30, 2024
Julie, of Farmington Hills, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed into eternal life on Saturday evening, November 30, 2024. She was 80 years old.
Born on October 24, 1944, in Denver, CO, to the late Arnold and Dolores (Fitzgerald) Olsen, and raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee—a secret city built for the creation and study of nuclear energy—Julie was shaped by a remarkable community and history.
A brilliant and accomplished woman, Julie graduated from Oak Ridge High School before earning her degree from Ursuline College (now Bellarmine College) with the support of a four-year National Merit Scholarship. She later continued her education at Madonna College in Livonia and proudly achieved her master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1993.
Julie's career was marked by leadership and advocacy. She served as a Customer Service Supervisor for 3M from 1978 to 1990 and passionately dedicated her time as the Legislative Chair for the League of Women Voters. In 1975, her contributions to the empowerment of Kentucky women were recognized when she was named a Kentucky Colonel by the state's governor.
A lifelong learner and avid reader, Julie had a profound love for literature, gardening, and her family. Her dedication to her loved ones shone through her constant presence at recitals, sporting events, and academic milestones. Julie's inclusivity and boundless affection made her the cornerstone of her large family.
Julie shared over 42 joyful years with her late husband, Gerald. Together, they cherished boating adventures, evenings at the theatre, fine dinners, and dancing. Her vibrant spirit was also evident in her legendary card-playing prowess, particularly in bridge and pinochle.
In later years, Julie resided at Brookdale Senior Living, where her radiant smile and playful winks brought joy to those around her, even after her Alzheimer's diagnosis. She taught her family invaluable lessons in grace, acceptance, forgiveness, and above all, love.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Davis, and sisters, Debbie (John) Lomax and Mary (Bob) Tice.
Julie was the beloved mother of Mark (Richelle) Hubbuch, and their children, Daniel (Chelsea) Hubbuch (children, Miles and Addy), Sarah Hubbuch, Corinna Gunnell (son, Nolan), Daulton Gunnell, and Delaney Hubbuch; Sharon (Bill) Galvin, and their children Brittany (Andrew) Loewenstein (son, August), and Brian Galvin; Linda (Steve) Friedland , and their sons, Joseph and Aaron; the late Nancy Davis (sons, Ryan and Sean McAllister), and Karen (Rich) Barkel, and their children, Abbie Strasser, Kate Strasser, and Kinzie (Karly) Barkel; and siblings, Cheryl (David) Short, Stephanie (Robert M.D.) Hays, and Gregory (Janie) Olsen.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Thursday, December 5, from 2-8 pm. A time of prayer and remembrances is planned for 7 pm.
Julie's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, December 6, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington. Julie's family will deliver a eulogy at 9:45 am.
Memorial tributes are kindly suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
Julie's legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and wit. She will be remembered as a remarkable woman whose warmth and intelligence enriched all who knew her.
