Farmington Hills
Joyce Ann Streffon, age 88, of Farmington Hills, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, with her loving family by her side.
Joyce was born in Pikeville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Roby and Lavada (Spears) Pope.
Joyce moved to Detroit and worked various clerical jobs while attending Eastern Michigan University. She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1969. She continued her education and earned a two master's degree in art in 1972 and 1982. After receiving her master's degree in 1982, Joyce further earned an educational specialist degree with a school psychologist endorsement in 1992. Higher education was important to Joyce, and she instilled this importance in her children.
Joyce started her professional career as a classroom teacher at Taylor Center Elementary School. She met the love of her life at Taylor Elementary, Bill Streffon (D.2013), who was the music teacher for the school district. The two were married in September of 1979, in Dearborn, Michigan.
Both Joyce and her William belonged to the American Art Pottery Association. They would travel throughout the region collecting antiques for themselves and to market at antique shows. Their favorite was Centerville Antique Festival which was popular in the summer months. They started a small business called Golden Era Antiques.
Joyce is survived by her beloved children, Pamela Johnson, Paula Johnson, Craig Smith, Loren (Peggy) Streffon, John Streffon, Richard Streffon, and Paul (Tanya) Streffon; dear grandchildren, Brandon Bullion, Travis (Kimberly) Messinger, Emily Streffon, Michelle Streffon, Jenna Streffon, and Laura Streffon; and loved great-grandchildren, Cayleigh, Gavin, and Riley.
Sadly, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Streffon.
Memorial donations may be made out to charity of one's choice.
Please keep the Streffon family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult.
