Joyce W.
Rieger
Jul 20, 1931 — Sep 1, 2026
Farmington Hills
Joyce W. Rieger, age 95, of Farmington Hills, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with her loving family at her side.
Joyce was born July 20, 1931, in Elyria, Ohio, the daughter of the late Clyde Edward and Inez Winifred (Silmser) Holmes. In 1951, she married Raymond Rieger in Ferndale, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than six decades. Together, Joyce and Raymond shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2015.
Joyce will be remembered for her kind heart, warm personality, and genuine enjoyment of being around others. Naturally social, she loved conversation, companionship, and the relationships she built throughout her life. She had a gracious way about her and made people feel welcome and comfortable in her presence. Joyce and Raymond enjoyed traveling all over the world and entertaining at their beloved cottage at Duck Lake.
Joyce also took great pride in her appearance and was always beautifully put together. She rarely, if ever, left the house without looking her best, and her standing weekly hair appointment was a longtime tradition she thoroughly enjoyed.
Above all, Joyce was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and a loving grandmother. Her family was at the center of her life, and she treasured the time spent with those she loved most. The kindness, care, and example she gave to her family will remain an important part of her legacy.
Joyce was also a woman of deep faith. Her Catholic faith was an important source of strength and comfort throughout her life, and she embraced it with sincerity and devotion.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Peter) Tompson and son, David Rieger; grandchildren, Krystal (Dan) Worek, Tyler (Angie) Tompson, Jake Tompson and Hailey Thrasher, Niece Dana Rieger (Peg). Sadly, Joyce was also preceded in death by her sister, Doreen Christ.
No formal services will be held, and burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial tributes are suggested to St. Fabian Catholic Church, 32200 W. 12 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48334.
Joyce will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
