Joseph A. Sytniak, of Commerce, passed into eternal life on Thursday afternoon, August 11, at Angela Hospice, Livonia. He was 80 years old.
Joe was born August 26, 1941, in Dearborn, to the late Bernard and Sophie (Makulski) Sytniak. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, MaryAnn, in 2012. Joe was an avid bowler, enjoyed golf, a proud member of Knights of Columbus and coached baseball for many years for Saints Peter and Paul Parish Community in Detroit.
Joe is the beloved significant other to Regina Mackey for 9 years; devoted father of Joseph (Dena) Sytniak, Brien (Margaret) Sytniak, Dennis Sytniak, Laurena (Roger) Cain, and "adopted daughter" Dena (Jim) Harrington; cherished grandfather of Bob Guy, R.J. Cain and Justin Cain; great-grandfather of Leo Cain; adopted grandfather to Jeremy and Jimmy Harrington and Peter Potrykus; loving brother of Bernard (Beth) Sytniak, John (Sue) Sytniak and MaryAnn (the late Dave) Zelazny; "Papa Joe" to nephews, Rob (Michele) Mackey and Scott Mackey, and great-nieces and nephews, Brendan, Greta, Jack, Kyle, Colin, and Brynn Mackey; uncle to Michael (Kris) Sytniak and their children, Sofia and Francesco, Anne (Michael) Vara and their children, Allyson, Matthew (Christine) and their children Madison, Liam and Mia Vara, James (Ina) Sytniak and their son Grant, John (Katie) Sytniak, Donna (Keith) Ramsay, Carrie (Ken) Polhemus and their children Ben, Chelsea and Katy, Jennie (Joe) Eddy, Lindsay (Dan) Bochenek and thier daughters Mary and Anna, Mark Kappe and his children Jessie and Michael; and friend to many.
The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Thursday, August 18, from 2-8 pm, with 7 pm prayers and remembrances.
Joe's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, August 19, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington. Military funeral honors will conclude Joe's funeral mass.
Interment will follow at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
Memorial tributes are suggested to Angela Hospice, Livonia.
