John E.
Howell, "Jack"
Sep 9, 1951 — Apr 14, 2025
Farmington Hills
John Edward Howell, better known as "Jack," age 73, passed away Monday, April 14, 2025, in Farmington, Mich.
Jack was born on September 9, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., the son of late Maurice "Bud" and Doris Howell. He is proceeded in death by his previous wife, Christine Albert-Howell, with whom he was married 34 years, and his brother Wayne Howell.
Jack's legacy lives on through his family, who simply put, was his everything. That includes his devoted wife, Beverly Schan; his five children and one stepchild; and 10 grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, as well as his children and his grandkids, who brought him particular joy:
· Son Tim Howell and grandchildren Kailey and Michael Howell
· Son Pat (Jann) Howell and grandchildren Waylon and Preston Howell
· Daughter Angela (John) Laskey and grandchildren Alyssa Prinz and Christian Luther
· Daughter Jessica (Trevor) Pawl and grandchildren Mack and Ella Jo Pawl
· Son Jereme Howell
· Stepson Robert (Erin) Schan and grandchildren Jackson and Ellie
Jack grew up in Livonia, Mich. alongside his two brothers, in a neighborhood full of kids, impromptu street sports, and eventually, muscle cars, which fueled his lifelong interest in cars of all kinds.
He was an iron worker by trade and spent his career helping to construct buildings in and around Detroit and regaled his family with stories of his work frequently. When he wasn't working, he was ticking off one of endless projects in and around his home, cottage on Sage Lake, or hunting cabin in the Upper Peninsula, where his ashes will be spread.
He was a longtime member of Memorial Church of Christ in Livonia, where he also worked after retirement.
He found immense happiness in a simple life. Sitting on the back porch with his wife Bev, sipping coffee. Putzing around in his garage. Lending a helping hand. Considering what would be his next new car. Watching his grandkids play—and more often than not playing with the youngest of them, throwing them over a shoulder or hanging them upside down, always eliciting squeals and laughter.
To say that he'll be missed is a grand understatement. The kindness and warmth that he brought to the lives of those who knew him will leave a lasting impression.
Visitation will take place on Friday, April 18, 10-2 pm, with a 2 pm funeral service, at the funeral home.
Memorial tributes may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
