John C.
Davis, "Jack"
Sep 17, 1933 — Apr 29, 2026
Farmington
John C. Davis, "Jack", age 92, of Farmington, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Jack was born in Detroit, MI, September 17, 1933, the son of the late Evelyn and Charles Davis.
Jack was a gentleman in every sense of the word—sensitive, kind, and always eager to help others. He spent many years working in restaurants, including the former Big Boy on 8 Mile Road and Farmington, where he proudly served as a busboy. Jack approached his job with great pride and purpose, always carrying a briefcase and dressing in a button-down shirt and tie, as he liked to say, because he was the "manager."
After the restaurant closed, Jack continued his commitment to service by volunteering for many years at the Farmington Hills Costick Center. True to form, he brought along his briefcase and dressed for the role, explaining that he needed to "sign all the checks." Jack rarely wanted to miss a day of "work," and he remained dedicated until his retirement during the COVID pandemic at the age of 86.
Though some might have focused on Jack's intellectual disability, those who knew him understood that his life was full, meaningful, and rich with experience. For many years, Jack proudly shared that he had served in the Navy and took great interest in military books, cherishing his Navy ring. Later, it was learned that he had in fact received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1960. With the help of his uncle, he was able to serve in the National Guard in a way that ensured his safety.
Jack spent 45 years living in Community Living Centers, where he formed deep friendships and found a true sense of family among his housemates and caregivers. He even married his long-time love, Carol Piper, in 2002 at St. Gerald's until she passed away in 2009. He embraced life's joys, traveling on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, and taking memorable road trips to Virginia and throughout northern Michigan.
Jack's life was a testament to dignity, perseverance, and the simple joy of showing up each day with purpose. He will be remembered with great affection by all who knew him.
A funeral Mass celebrating Jack's life will be Thursday, May 14, 11 am, (in state 10:30 am), St. Gerald Catholic Church, 21300 Farmington Rd, Farmington.
Jack will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
Please keep Jack in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
