Joan, of Farmington Hills, a beloved mother and friend, passed into eternal life on Wednesday afternoon, February 28, 2024, joining her late husband, Nippani, on their 55th wedding anniversary. She was 76 years old.
Joan was born September 8, 1947, in Covington, KY, to the late Thomas and Margaret Burns. She married Nippani Rao on February 28, 1969, and sadly, he preceded her in death on January 19, 2021. In addition to Nippani, Joan was also preceded in death by a son, David, on December 22, 2021, a sister, Margie (the late Paul) Wesselman, and a brother, Gerald Burns.
Joan dedicated over 35 years of her life as office administrator for the Farmington dental practice of Dr. Leslie Metzger where she not only served as a valued employee but became an integral part of the extended dental family. Her commitment to excellence and compassionate care touched the lives of countless patients who sought comfort in her presence. Her unwavering commitment and compassionate care left an indelible mark on the hearts of those with whom she interacted.
In the face of health challenges over the previous months, Joan demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience. Her tenacity was an inspiration to those who knew her, as she faced adversity with strength and a desire to be at home.
Joan lives on, not only in the memories of those she touched, but also in the indelible mark she left on the hearts of everyone privileged to share in her journey. May she rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion.
Surviving are two sons, Eric and Stephen (Michelle); her brother, Eugene (Glenda) Burns; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home for visitation on Friday, March 8, from 10:00 am until the start of the 12:30 pm Service of Remembrance. Father Denis Theroux will preside.
Memorial tributes may be made to Michigan Humane or the Wounded Warrior Project .
