Janice
Hall
Dec 18, 1949 — Jul 23, 2024
Janice Hall, of Farmington Hills, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend, unexpectedly passed into eternal life on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in the emergency department of Henry Ford Hospital, West Bloomfield. She was 74.
Jan was born December 18, 1949, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late Charles and Inell (Barnett) Cromer. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Ronnie and Kenneth Cromer. Surviving are four devoted children, Charles (Monique) Hall, Kimberly Hall, Christopher (Frankie) Hall, and Jonathan Reed; her beloved sister, Charnell Cromer; seven cherished grandchildren, DeAndre, Evan and Angel Hall, Paris, Paige and Payton Hall, and Paxton Reed; as well as a multitude of colleagues and friends.
Jan was a proud 1968 graduate of Cass Tech High School, where her journey of lifelong learning and professional excellence began.
Jan's remarkable career began as a bookkeeper and evolved into an esteemed role as office manager at the iconic Detroit radio station WJZZ, where she served from 1978 to 1998. Originally established as WCHB in 1960, this pioneering station was the first Black-owned radio station built from the ground up. During her tenure, Jan had the extraordinary privilege of working for a station that made history by recording Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. In 1974, WCHB was rebranded as WJZZ, and Jan continued her dedicated service there until her retirement in 1998.
In 1998, Jan embraced a new chapter in her career as a sales professional at Pier One's Novi location. Her most recent role, beginning in 2010, was part of the administrative team Costco's Commerce Township location. Jan's Costco colleagues became another family to her, and her willingness to assist her fellow employees was unmatched. Her presence at work, as recently as Saturday, brought warmth and kindness to the workplace, and she was beloved by all who knew her.
Jan was a sweet, kind, Christian soul, known for her love of animals, particularly dogs and birds. She enjoyed a wide range of music, especially R&B and pop, and kept up with current trends. Her infectious laughter and love for comedies brightened many lives. Jan was incredibly energetic and passionate about physical fitness. A hard worker, she juggled two jobs while attending college at night in her younger years, embodying the strength and resilience of a true "Superwoman".
Jan's generosity knew no bounds, and she deeply loved her family. Her selflessness was a defining trait, and people cherished being in her presence. To her grandchildren, she was "Manana," a beacon of sunshine and joy. An avid reader, Jan's love for books took her to many wonderful places in her imagination. She also had a profound appreciation for nature and enjoyed movies, finding beauty and joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Jan's legacy of kindness, strength, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a loving family, friends, and colleagues who will forever remember her radiant spirit and the joy she brought into their lives.
In honor of the beautiful person Jan was to each of us, a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday morning, August 3, at 11:00 am, at the Farmington Hills Church of God, 25717 Power Rd., Farmington Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Michigan Humane , in memory of Jan's love for animals.
Jan's warm smile, generous heart, and enduring love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and light she shared with the world.
