Obituary

James Stock, of the Woodhaven Retirement Community in Livonia, and a proud U.S. Marine Veteran, passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, November 14, at the age of 96. Born to Genevieve and John Stock in Detroit, Jim was the oldest of five children and a cherished member of a family that held a special place in his heart.

Growing up with four siblings, Larry Stock (sons, John and Mike), Mary Corby (daughters, Carol and Diane), Vincent Stock, and Lorraine Christiansen (children, Wally, Doug, Jerry, Cathy, Libby and Mike), Jim developed a strong bond with his family. Despite the predecease of his siblings, their memory fondly lived on in his heart.

Jim was a true American patriot, serving his country with honor as a U.S. Marine. His dedication to his fellow Marines and his country was unwavering, leaving a legacy of service that will be remembered with gratitude.

Jim's love for golf, tending to his garden, and maintaining his home showcased his passion for an active and fulfilling life. His commitment to hard work was a testament to his vibrant spirit and he truly embodied the notion of a "work hard, play hard" way of life. He found true joy in the company of his family, and his happiness was never more evident than when surrounded by his loved ones.

Jim's marriage to Alice, spanning an incredible 62 years, was a testament to enduring love and partnership. They first met at the wedding of his best friend, Walter "Connie" Demattia, and remained inseparable throughout their lifetime. The bond they shared was a source of strength and support for both of them.  Sadly, his beloved Alice preceded him in death on December 2, 2018.

Together, Jim and Alice raised three remarkable children, Suzanne (Michael) Woynick, Cynthia (Gregory) Pfeifer, and James (Serena) Stock. The family they created was a testament to their commitment to love, unity, and shared values.

Moreover, Jim leaves behind a legacy of 11 beautiful grandchildren, Kathleen (Troy Engelland) and Megan "Rosie" McClain, Michael and Alexandra Woynick, Genevieve McClain, Arianna Woynick, Andrew and Ryan Stock, and Lauren, James and Joseph Pfeifer.

As the ultimate patriarch, Jim Stock will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His legacy of dedication, love, and joy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in his life. In this time of mourning, may his family find solace in the memories of a life well-lived and a love that endures beyond the boundaries of time.

Jim's funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning, November 21, at 11:30 am (gathering from 11:00 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.

Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, will immediately follow the mass.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, macular.org.

Kindly keep Jim and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
