Southfield
John Mark Harpootlian, known by all as Mark, passed away on July 18, 2024 at the age of 74 in Southfield, Michigan, after a ten-year valiant fight against cancer.
Mark was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on November 11, 1949, son of the late Tom and Evelyn Harpootlian.
Mark spent his formative years at John Muir primary school and graduated from Parma Senior High School. He furthered his education at the General Motors Institute, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1972, followed by an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1980.
Mark's professional life was marked by his tenure as the co-owner of Major Micro Systems, Inc. He was deeply involved in the Eastern Michigan Camaro Club, reflecting his passion for his 1969 Frost Green Camaro. Mark was a devout member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where he joyfully served his local body of believers through Children's Ministries and playing his cello in the church orchestra.
Mark's family was his pride and joy. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Sharon; loving father of Kevin (Sarah) and Jamie Christie (Scott); cherished grandfather of Matthew and William; dearest brother of Tom (Lin) and Julie (Rick); aunt, Lucie Priola; sisters-in-law, Sandy (Mark) Dally and Sue Anne (Paul) Klinefelter; and uncle to numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
The Harpootlian family will receive friends Monday, July 22, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 23, 11 AM, Highland Park Baptist Church, 28600 Lahser, Southfield, MI. Family and friends can begin gathering at the church at 10am until Mark's service begins.
It was Mark's wishes to be cremated after the service. No burial arrangements were made at this time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Eastern Michigan Camaro Club Fund through the Canton Community Foundation; Detroit Rescue Mission or Robin's Nest Children's Home in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Links have been provided for your convenience.
