Gerald R. Marcus, "Jerry"

Gerald “Jerry” Marcus passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, at the age of 88, at Angela Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. He was born on July 3, 1938, to Donald and Mary Marcus in Detroit.

Jerry leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Colleen, along with his brother Richard Marcus and sisters Patricia Bastien and Kathleen (Kurt Dreher). He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Donald; brothers Donald and Thomas; sister Marianne; sisters-in-law Cathy (wife of Richard) and Thelma (wife of Tom); and brother-in-law Don Bastien (husband of Patricia). Jerry is also survived by 68 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews, and eight godchildren.

Jerry worked at Chrysler and then, for the last 30 years before retirement, as a plumber for A.J. Danboise.

Jerry loved adventure. As a young man, he traveled to Europe, Canada, and across the United States. He loved to share his travels and was able to talk about them as if they happened yesterday. After he retired, he traveled to Florida and made several trips to Tybee Island, Georgia, with Colleen, his brother Richard, and sister-in-law Cathy. He always looked forward to hunting with his brothers and nephews in Rose City every November.

In retirement, he became a fan of Kelly and Mark, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and never missed an episode of Survivor.

Jerry’s favorite holiday was Christmas. He made an annual trip to Eastern Market with his brothers, sisters, and niece. He took great pride in picking out the right gift and ensuring the house was decorated festively.

A big part of his retirement was spent driving Fr. Jim from St. Alexander’s. He spent many hours taking him to weddings, funerals, and parish visits. They enjoyed each other’s company, and most visits included lunch. He developed a deep friendship with Fr. Jim, which meant so much to both of them. He had a very strong faith in God right up until his death, talking about heaven and praying.

Jerry’s greatest trait was being a good listener. He never judged. He was a vault no one could unlock. If you told him something in confidence, he never shared it with anyone else. He was the gentlest and kindest man you could ever meet, always grateful for even the smallest thing.

Jerry loved deeply and was deeply loved by all who knew him. His death has left a hole in our hearts, but the blessing of having known him will carry us through. We are all blessed to have known Jerry.
