Obituary

Gary Mikal Shortt, age 76, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home July 16, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

Gary was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 26, 1946, the son of the late William (Madeleine) Shortt and Astrid Shortt. He attended Farmington High School and graduated in 1964. He bravely served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict from 1967-1969.  After the war, he attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a bachelor's degree of Business Administration.

Gary was known for being a great father, husband, and friend. He was warm hearted, honest, respectful, a great listener, thinker, and lifelong learner. Gary loved to dance, listen to music, work with his hands, and is a gentle soul.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Donna Shortt; beloved children, Jeffrey (Kendall McDaniel) Shortt and Casey (Joseph) Clapper; the loving daughter of Kendall McDaniel, Kenvor "K.J." McDaniel; brothers, Ralph Shortt, David Shortt, and James (Esther) Shortt; and grandkitties, Bailey Shortt and Ansel Shortt. Sadly, he was preceded in death by his dear infant son, Derek Shortt.

Family and friends may gather for an interment ceremony on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Donations may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project to further honor Gary's life.
