Obituary

Fannie Vesta Moore Harvey was born on January 26,1938, in Tuskegee, Alabama, to the late Aaron and Luvesta (Neal) Moore. She was the oldest of seven children and was like a second mom to most of them. She was educated in the Macon County School System and graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School. She also attended various colleges and studied liberal arts. While she did not earn a degree from college, she earned a degree from life, and her major was wisdom.

A few years after graduating High School, she sought employment in New York. She began as a domestic worker, then became a Nursing Assistant at Rockland State Hospital. Fannie continued to advance. She rose through the ranks of the New York City Department of Human Resources, passing test after test to retire from the Division of Management Information Systems as Director of Data and Security Systems.

Fannie was introduced to the love of her life, John Lester Harvey, by a mutual friend. John swept her off her feet and they were married on March 16,1957. Together, in New York City, they raised three children, Lisa, Darwin, and Lynette.

Fannie loved the Lord. She was baptized at Franklin AME Zion Church, in Alabama at an early age. In New York, she was very active as a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and working on various committees.

Another passion was serving as the Worthy Matron for the Eastern Star - Golden Gate 40 Chapter.

Fannie also loved helping others and because of that many people called her mom, grandma, and an encouraging friend. With her winning personality, she made friends everywhere she went. She loved sharing her wisdom, advice, and beautiful smile with all. One of her favorite sayings was, "If I can help somebody along the way, then my living shall not be in vain." It certainly wasn't as she touched so many lives, even with her great cooking. She often enjoyed watching others delight in her delicious dishes,

As she became weaker and needed more care, she moved to Michigan to live near her daughter. Fannie was a fighter and never wavered from her faith in God. She passed away at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, after battling with various ailments.

Fannie leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Lisa (Staffard) Roach of Farmington Hills, MI, Darwin Harvey of New York, NY, Lynette (Rodney) Pierce of Yonkers, NY; two sisters, Geri Moore of Bronx, NY, Rosa (Jim) Neth of Crystal Rivers, FL, one brother, John (Doris) Moore of Tuskegee, AL, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Fannie's life will be celebrated at a funeral ceremony on Wednesday morning, June 5, at 11:00 am (visitation from 10:00 am), at the First United Methodist Church of Farmington. Please click HERE to view the livestream via the Church's Facebook page.
