Elton L. "Al" Roberson, age 85, of Novi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love for family, friends, and students.

Al was born June 16, 1939, in Detroit, the son of Ezra and Florence (Lyons) Roberson.

Al graduated from Eastern Michigan University with his bachelor and master's degrees, and taught sixth grade and high school art for over 30 years at Redford Union Schools, where he became everyone's favorite teacher. His passion for education and creativity inspired countless students, and his classroom was a place of learning, laughter, and encouragement.

Al had a strong faith, and one of his greatest joys was serving as an usher at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, where he loved greeting and talking to people. His warm, welcoming nature made him a beloved figure in the church community. He also participated in numerous church missions, traveling to Appalachia and Costa Rica to help those in need, reflecting his commitment to service and compassion for others.

In addition to teaching, Al was an announcer for various sports, including basketball, swimming, and track, always supporting his students both in and out of the classroom. He was also known for his handiness, able to fix just about anything and always willing to lend a helping hand.

Above all, Al cherished his family and the joy that children brought into his life. His love for his family, his students, and his community will forever be remembered. His faith, dedication, and kindness have left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Al is survived by his longtime devoted companion, Judy Blaney; son, Todd (Diane) Roberson; daughter, Jill (Steven) Blanchard; grandchildren, Valarie Kowalski, Sydney Kowalski, Alyssa Roberson, Kaitlyn Roberson and Brandon Roberson.
