Elizabeth "Betty"
Marie Rominski
Jun 30, 1944 — Mar 23, 2024
Farmington Hills
Elizabeth "Betty" Rominski, aged 79, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024. Betty was born on June 30, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She and her four siblings had a uniquely strong bond, relying on each other to help the family make ends meet. They found joy in the lively rhythms of polka dancing, in summer visits to a relative's family cottage, and wintertime figure skating on Belle Isle.
After graduating from St. Cyril's High School, Betty embarked on a journey of service and education, spending eight fulfilling years teaching alongside the Dominican Sisters convent in Oxford, Michigan. Her dedication to nurturing young minds left an indelible mark on her students, who were drawn to her warmth and kindness.
In 1971, Betty married Art Rominski. Together, they built their forever home in Farmington Hills, and found great joy raising their two boys, Craig and Dale.
Throughout the breadth of her career, Betty's commitment to going above and beyond was a testament to her compassion and dedication to serving others. She enjoyed the impact her work had on others—whether it was finding someone the right house as a real estate agent, or having the Catholic Central High School boys delight in the apple fritters she made while managing the cafeteria. Her genuine care for others endeared her to those who had the pleasure of working with her.
In retirement, Betty found solace in the challenge of 1000-piece puzzles, and excitement in Scrabble battles with her family. She enjoyed cheering on the University of Michigan hockey and football teams, as well as rooting for the Detroit Red Wings and Lions. Above all, Betty was a devoted supporter of her children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on from the sidelines of their sporting events–even traveling all the way to Alaska with the hockey team, where she drove sled dogs! Her unwavering encouragement and boundless love served as a source of inspiration for all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her husband of 52 years, Art Rominski; children, Craig (Jenny Tubbs) and Dale (Cait) Rominski; grandchildren, Roan, Ola, George, Billy, and Gwen; and her sister Darlene Maxwell. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sylvia Koss; and her siblings Bernadette Dee, Dan Koss, and Karen Wright.
A memorial gathering will take place on April 12, 2024, from 2 – 7 pm, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home.
Donations may be directed to C.A.R.E.S . of Farmington to further honor Betty's life.
Please keep Betty and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
