Obituary

Elizabeth A. "Beth" Dutton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed into eternal life on Wednesday afternoon, December 6, 2023.  She was 78 years old. Beth gracefully journeyed through life with an unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith and the profound principles of Divine Mercy. Beth's life was an embodiment of love, faith, and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.

Beth was born May 26, 1945, in Ann Arbor, to the late George and Dorothy (Hlubek) Walz.  She attended both St. Suzanne Catholic School and Rosary High School and earned a bachelor's degree in special education from Marygrove College.  Beth began her teaching career in Utica Schools and later as a paraprofessional for Livonia Schools.  She married Richard Dutton on June 26, 1971, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Warren, MI.

Her dedication to her family and friends was unparalleled.  Her direct personality was a reflection of her honesty and commitment to truth. Beth held herself and others to high expectations, not out of judgment, but out of a belief in one's greatest potential within each person she encountered. Her candid nature was a signature trait, a testament to her genuine concern and love for those around her.

Beth's profound devotion to St. Faustina and Our Lady of Grace illuminated her path, guiding her through life's joys and challenges with steadfast faith and boundless love. Her reverence for these spiritual figures enriched her own life and radiated outward, touching the lives of others in meaningful ways.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 52 years, Richard; three devoted children, Jeffrey (Emily) Dutton, Matthew (Lisa) Dutton, and Amy (George) Munday; ten grandchildren, Natalie and Katelyn Dutton, Olivia, Isabel, William, Michael and Evelyn Dutton, and Madeline, Molly and Maren Munday; and her loving sister, Joan (Joseph) DiFranco.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Walz, and her brother, David (the late Mary) Walz.

Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home on Thursday, December 14, from 2-8 pm, with 7 pm prayers.

Beth's funeral mass will be celebrated Friday morning, December 15, at 10:30 am (in state 10:00 am) at St. Colette Catholic Church, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia.

Memorial tributes are suggested to Priests for Life or the Alliance Defending Freedom.

As we mourn the loss of an extraordinary soul, let us also celebrate the beautiful life Beth lived—a life adorned with love, faith, and a profound dedication to family, friends, and her unwavering beliefs. May her spirit continue to illuminate our lives and may her soul find eternal peace in the embrace of divine grace.
