Elizabeth Mary Church (née Syron), aged 94, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones Saturday April 20th in Farmington, Michigan.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Aral Church in 1994.
She is survived by her five children, John (Michele), Tom (Patricia), Beth, Mary Catherine (Felix), and Anne; ten grandchildren, John, Victoria, Mallory, Christine, John, Erin, Megan, Catelyn, William and David; and her sister, Agnes Anderson.
Elizabeth was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, to Hugh and Elizabeth Syron, she was a true Yankee Doodle Dandy born on the Fourth of July. A graduate of Visitation High School and Mercy College of Detroit, she earned a master's degree in education at the University of Detroit and went on to teach for the Detroit Board of Education for many years. After raising her five children, she returned to teaching as an English professor at her alma mater. She retired from the University of Detroit in 2001 settling comfortably into her role as Grandma. A lifelong golfer and rabid fan of the Detroit Tigers, she will be forever in the hearts of her family, friends and former students.
The Church family will receive guests at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Friday, April 26th, from 2-8 pm. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm.
Elizabeth's funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday morning, April 27, at 10 am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
