Eleanor C.
Schmitz
Aug 15, 1930 — May 25, 2025
Eleanor C. Schmitz, of Northville, formerly of Livonia, passed into eternal life on Sunday evening, May 25, 2025. She was 94 years old.
Eleanor was born August 15, 1930, in Detroit, to the late Colin and Caroline (Gray) Moffatt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Kenneth, on September 3, 2012.
Eleanor is the loving mother of the late Ronald (Becky) Schmitz, Dr. John (Connie) Schmitz, Robert (the late Shirley) Schmitz, and Paul (Debbie) Schmitz; proud grandmother of Jennifer, Julia, and Allyson, Heather, Bradley, Danielle, Paul Jr., and Patrick; great-grandmother to Dallas, Avery, Heidi, Payge, Alexandria and Grayson; dear sister of Patricia (the late Richard) Vaughn and Douglas (Polly) Moffatt; and aunt to many nieces, nephews and friends.
Eleanor lived a joyful and fulfilling life. Every Friday, she looked forward to happy hour at Brookdale with her family. Known for her constant singing and vibrant spirit, Eleanor was truly the life of the party.
A devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church for 73 years, she was one of its oldest parishioners. She loved singing in the church choir and found great joy in creating ceramics.
Eleanor was deeply devoted to her husband and family, and she nurtured lasting traditions throughout her life. One of her cherished customs was handwriting 150 Christmas cards each year—a tradition she continued until the age of 90. She had a rare gift for making everyone around her feel genuinely loved and valued.
She wore many hats throughout her life: wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. In each role, Eleanor poured out love, kindness, and unwavering support.
She loved everyone she encountered, and her warmth touched the hearts of many. Her legacy of love, joy, and tradition will be forever remembered.
