Elaine Rita
Escott
Apr 10, 1951 — May 20, 2026
Farmington Hills
Elaine Rita Escott (April 10, 1951 – May 20, 2026) of Farmington Hills, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Elaine was born and raised in Detroit, and credited her mother, Marguerite Dwyer, for giving her a strong foundation of faith and character. Elaine graduated from Rosary High School in 1969, and went on to earn her Associate's Degree from the Detroit College of Business. Elaine worked as a medical transcriptionist at Oakwood Hospital, where she met her husband John. They were married in 1975 and spent 28 wonderful years together living life to the fullest. Together, they loved entertaining family and friends, traveling, and enjoying the small things just as much. For 14 years, Elaine worked as a bus driver for Farmington Public Schools and treasured the relationships she built with the special needs children she transported.
Elaine was a devout Catholic, and had a passion for volunteering and helping others in any way she could. She was an active member of every church she belonged to throughout the years, including being a Eucharistic Minister, and participating in special events geared toward helping those in need. For 26 years, Elaine volunteered at Angela Hospice by singing in their choir. She said, "I love knowing that I can help make someone's last moments on Earth a little more enjoyable." Elaine had a huge heart, and room for everyone in it. She prayed for others daily, and her devotion to God was inspiring.
Elaine was loved immensely by her daughters and sisters, with whom she shared a close bond. She enjoyed spending time with her family, extended family, friends, and dogs. Elaine loved everything about Christmas, and held Easter and Christmas traditions close to her heart. She loved music and singing, especially Motown. Elaine was a devoted sister, loving aunt, and caring friend, and some of her favorite people called her Grandma. She adored her grandbabies as they adored her. Elaine was social, and made everyone feel included, loved, and appreciated. She was fun to be around, had the most contagious laugh, and was always the life of the party. Elaine was a beautiful person, a bright light, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is at peace with her husband and mother in heaven.
Elaine is survived by her daughters, Amy (Christopher) Johnston, Sarah Escott and Kathryn Klein; grandchildren, Zachary (16), Avery (14), Sean (13), Vincent (12), Ellie (10) and Reya (7); sisters, Kathleen LaRue Young (the late James Young) and Irene Dwyer Mlot (the late Michael Mlot). Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, John Escott, on July 6, 2003, and her parents, Richard J. and Marguerite M. Dwyer.
A visitation and rosary will be held on Friday, June 12 from 6-8, with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, 23720 Farmington Rd., Farmington, MI 48336. A Mass in Elaine's honor will be held on Saturday, June 13 at 10am, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23815 Power Rd., Farmington, MI 48336. Burial will follow at Oakland Hills Memorial Garden, in Novi. Elaine's celebration of life following the burial will take place at Steven Lelli's Inn on the Green, 27925 Golf Pointe Blvd., Farmington Hills, MI 48331.
Donations may be sent to either Angela Hospice, where Elaine volunteered, or to Serenity of Commerce, the home where she spent her final months. The family would like to thank these two organizations for their wonderful care of Elaine.
