Earl R. Maki, 81, of Farmington Hills, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and thriftiness. Born in Detroit on August 30, 1942, Earl was the son of the late Anna and Arthur Maki and was immensely proud of his Finnish heritage.

A graduate of Farmington High School, Earl remained a lifelong resident of Farmington Hills, Michigan, where he cultivated deep connections within the community. He had a unique passion for shopping, finding joy in the hunt for discounted items. His thoughtful nature extended beyond his own needs as he frequently surprised his siblings by delivering items he'd discovered on his shopping expeditions.

Earl's savvy shopping skills extended even to the fuel in his car. He was renowned for his determination to find the best bargains, often driving miles on an empty tank just to secure the lowest-priced gasoline.

His commitment to thriftiness was matched only by his generosity and willingness to share the fruits of his bargain-hunting endeavors with those he cared about.

Earl was a proud veteran in the Navy.

Earl R. Maki will be fondly remembered for his dedication to his community, his love for his family, and his knack for finding the best deals. He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Earl is the loving brother of James (Barb), Joann Adams (Barry), Susan Carter (Tom), Judith Gross (Sam) and the late Wanda Schicker; dearest uncle to 14 nieces and nephews.

Earl will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, in the family plot.  A private ceremony will take place at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Earl's name to either: The Salvation Army or Gleaners Community Food Bank .
