Obituary

Douglas C. "Doug" Pinneo, of Redford, passed peacefully at home on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.

Doug was born January 4, 1946, in Detroit to Charles and Audrey Pinneo. He grew up in Redford, graduated from Thurston High School in 1963, and later proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, stationed in Germany. That time overseas shaped him deeply and sparked a lifelong love of travel, history, and adventure.

After returning home, Doug began dating Barbara, his back-fence neighbor. Their first date was a trip to the Detroit Zoo, and it became the start of a 54-year marriage. They were married on October 22, 1971, at St. Valentine Catholic Church and spent the next 51 years in their Redford home, raising their daughters, Anne and Kathy. Along the way, they were fortunate to be surrounded by neighbors who became lifelong friends and truly felt like family.

Doug worked for Ford Motor Company for more than 30 years. He began on the assembly line and later moved into supervisory, inventory, and prototype work. Prototype was his favorite because it allowed him to use his hands, creativity, and mechanical mind. He was known at work not only for being capable and hardworking, but also for his humor, kindness, and quiet generosity.

Doug loved cars, camping, hunting, photography, history, and figuring out how things worked. He and Barbara took their family on countless camping trips, traveling to places like the Pinery Provincial Park, Lake Superior, the western United States, Nova Scotia, and more. He also returned to Europe with Barbara, visiting Normandy and the barracks where he had once been stationed in Germany.

One of Doug's favorite places was the family cottage Up North on Grand Lake.  He loved sitting by the water, watching the lake, spending time in the woods, and relaxing with family.

Doug was a loving husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, cousin, coworker, and friend. He was protective, funny, generous, and deeply devoted to his family. He was the dad who played on the floor, made birthdays special, told dad jokes, and always had a story to tell.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters Anne Marks and Kathy (John) Armstrong; grandchildren Maxwell and Mazzie Marks, and Madalyn, Ryan, Addison, and Megan Armstrong; brother Steve (Linda) Pinneo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Doug's 80 years were filled with love, laughter, and adventure, leaving his family with memories they will hold close forever. His memory will live on in every trip up north, every quiet moment by the lake, every dad joke, and every story shared by those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes are kindly suggested to Angela Hospice or Pets for Vets .
