Obituary

Born to Donald and Shannon Christie on August 5th, 1957, in Flint, Michigan, Donald "Chris" Charles Christie II  grew up in a lively and loving household with four siblings, where he developed a strong sense of independence, a quick wit, and a deep loyalty to those around him.  A lover of black coffee, sweets, and classic rock, he approached life with humor, strength, and a firm belief that "life is good".

From his time in the Boy Scouts to his graduation from Northern Michigan University and beyond, Chris was known for his sharp mind and natural talent for problem solving. These skills were put to good use in a decades-long career as a programmer and systems application tester (which was perfect for Chris, who enjoyed tinkering with and breaking things). Outside of his working life, he was always ready to help his kids with their homework or lend a hand fixing anything. He was a true jack-of-all trades, whether it was handling the taxes or figuring out the best way to take care of gophers in the yard (with gasoline, of course).

Chris believed in flexibility, letting life unfold naturally, and finding joy in the moment. He cherished his time outdoors, especially on hunting trips with family or spending time on the waters of Higgins Lake. His adventurous spirit took him on countless trips around the world to places like Italy, Hawaii, Alaska, and Aruba. Across the country, down the street, it didn't matter where -- Chris explored the world with curiosity and gratitude.

He had an easy way of connecting with people. Chris could strike up a conversation with anyone, turning strangers into friends with his approachable, friendly nature. His off-beat sense of humor and genuine smile left lasting impressions on everyone he met.

While he had many skills and accomplishments, Chris was most proud of his family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, his love for family was his greatest achievement. He was always present -- whether driving to gymnastics practice, attending marching band competitions, or riding scooters with his grandkids. He leaves behind memories of road trips, laughter, and the enduring love he gave freely to those closest to him.

Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him family and friend.

Chris is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sue; beloved children, Donald (Alena) Christie, III., Jessica (Scott Musu) Christie, and Jamie (Corey Christensen) Christie; siblings, Sheryl (Rick) McDowell, Kevin (Brenda) Christie, Gregory "Tadd" (April) Christie, and Bryan "Todd" (Barb) Christie; his grandchildren, Xander Christie, Nathaniel Christie, Altheira Christie, and Julianna Christie; lifelong friends Marlane Fenlon and Matt Teare; and a network of extended family and friends.

The Christie family will receive friends Thursday, October 24, 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of Chris's life will begin at 4:00pm.

Donations may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation to further honor Chris's life.

Please keep Chris and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
