Obituary

Diona J. "DJ", of Farmington Hills, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at her home, surrounded by those she loved, early Friday morning, August 12, 2022.  She was 64 years old and ill for 3 years.

Diona was born September 14, 1957, in Detroit, to the late Edward and Gertrude (Ozark) Frenette.  She married Gary R. Holmes on February 17, 1990, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Findlay, OH.

Diona was a 1975 graduate of Lake Shore High School in St. Clare Shores, MI.  She earned an accounting degree from Mercy College of Detroit and worked toward an advanced degree at Central Michigan University.  An accountant by profession, DJ worked at National Bank of Detroit from 1976-1987, and as an account supervisor for Select Care from 1987-1990.  After raising her sons, Diona re-entered the workforce as an accountant for Hillers Markets from 2007-2015, and Karmanos from 2016-2019.  While raising their children, she devoted her time and talent as an accountant for the Nardin Park Nursery School, Beechview Swim Club, and Harrison High School Marching Band.  She was also active in the American Women's Club, Oakville, Ontario, Welcome Wagon, book groups, bunko groups, a birthday club, and enjoyed playing euchre.   Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend.  May her kind and beautiful soul rest in peace.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 32 years, Gary; devoted sons, Marc, Andrew, and Christian Holmes; loving sisters, Claudia Frenette and Simone (Leon) Ostrander; and a nephew, Grant Ostrander.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday, August 19, from 2-8 pm, and Saturday morning from 9 am-11 am.

A ceremony honoring Diona's life is planned for Saturday morning at 11:00 am, also at Heeney-Sundquist.  A luncheon will follow the ceremony at a venue announced at the funeral.
