Diane Ruth
Middelton
Jul 9, 1936 — Apr 20, 2024
Diane Ruth Middelton, a beloved educator and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on April 20, 2024, at the age of 87. Diane was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late William and Ruth Garner. She graduated with pride from McKenzie High School in 1954 and went on to earn her college degree from Wayne State University.
Diane dedicated her life to shaping young minds as a 1st and 2nd-grade teacher at Cortes Elementary in Detroit. Her passion for teaching left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students, whom she nurtured with care and compassion.
Outside the classroom, Diane found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a devoted cat lover, finding solace and companionship in the company of her feline friends. Alongside her late husband Dennis, she embarked on countless adventures, traveling and camping with their cherished group known as the "Back 40."
A Michigan native through and through, Diane embraced the beauty of her home state year-round. As a snowbird, she found respite from the winter chill by journeying to Florida, where she reveled in the warmth of the sun and the serenity of the ocean.
Diane was an active member of Nardin Park in Farmington Hills, where she found fellowship and support among her community. She cherished her family dearly and leaves behind her loving sister, Lou Ann Wold, and her husband, George Wold, along with dear nieces, Susan (Dan) Biringer and Carol (Steve) Ernat; and cousin, Sally Blundo, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her adored husband, Dennis Middelton (D. 2021).
A graveside service will take place April 24, 2024, 12 pm, at Glen Eden Memorial Park. The funeral home will be waiting just inside of the cemetery gates. Please pull up behind the hearse and wait for further direction.
Donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Diane and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
