Diane Marie
Butka
Mar 16, 1949 — Oct 4, 2023
Farmington Hills
Diane Marie Butka, age 74, a beloved friend and family member, has left us with a heavy heart. She passed away on October 4, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories.
Diane was born March 16, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Schmidt.
Diane had an unmatched love for thrifting, scouring antique stores and flea markets for hidden treasures that she would proudly display in her home. She found joy in the simple act of discovering the beauty in old and forgotten things.
Diane enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and California with Rick in her earlier years, where she embraced the thrill of the city's lights and entertainment. The sparkle of the city was a perfect match for her vibrant spirit. She had a wonderful relationship with her life partner, Richard. Richard was her rock, and she was his angel. They spent 40 blissful years together. Sadly, Richard bravely fought cancer and left this world in 2019.
Diane grew a passion for the kitchen later in life, where she would whip up delectable dishes that would leave anyone's taste buds singing.
Diane had a natural green thumb and could make any plant flourish under her care. Her home was always filled with the lush beauty of thriving flora.
One of the most remarkable things about Diane was her extraordinary ability to remember people. She made everyone feel valued and important, a quality that endeared her to all who knew her.
Her thoughtfulness was unparalleled. She had a knack for sending cards on special occasions and even on ordinary days, just to let her loved ones know they were in her heart. It was this genuine kindness that made her a true friend to many.
As we say our final goodbyes to Diane, we remember a woman who brought joy, love, and beauty into our lives. Her memory will forever live on in our hearts, and the impact she had on all of us will continue to inspire kindness and love.
Diane is survived by her loving daughter, Nadine (Matthew) Crenshaw; beloved grandchildren, Rachel Duncan, Joseph (Kailey) Crenshaw, Christopher Crenshaw, and Madelynn Crenshaw; great-grandchildren, Lilly Owens, Elouise Roberts, and Violet Crenshaw; and siblings, Richard, Lorraine, and Susan. She was preceded in death by her life partner of 40 years, Richard; siblings, Joseph, and Felicia.
A memorial gathering will take place November 20 at The Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home from 12-3pm. A memorial service will take place immediately after visitation.
To further honor Diane's life, donations may be directed to St. Jude or the American Cancer Society.
