Derek, of Livonia, entered eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia.  He was 60 years old.

Derek is the cherished husband of Ann Marie (Mather) Gee, and adored father of Christina Elizabeth Gee, of Livonia.  He is the beloved son of Patricia and the late Larry Gee of Dearborn, and brother of Bryan (Kelly) Gee and the late Jeffrey (Karen) Gee.

Derek became the "Instant Uncle" to many Mather nieces and nephews in 1991, and has since welcomed his own brothers' children (Lauren and Nick Gee) and step-children (Clayton and Collier Friemel) into his life.

Derek graduated from Edsel Ford High School (Dearborn) and Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti) where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree in Operations Research and Information Systems.  He applied his expertise as a Systems Analyst in a variety of roles in operational and financial systems at Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Credit Company for over 37 years, from the time he graduated college until his recent retirement in 2022.

Derek was a "quiet genius" with many interests and passions, including Music, from Ragtime to the Beatles and Zappa and Wierd Al; Film, from Chaplin, Keaton and Laurel and Hardy to the latest Star Wars; Stereo (3D) Photography and Film; Rollercoasters and Amusement Parks.  He researched, wrote, published, and produced books and video regarding his favorite "defunct" amusement park, Riverview Park in Chicago.  Derek was a deeply interesting man, who went to work every day and came home to his family every night.  He adored his wife and daughter, loved his parents and brothers, and connected deeply with many friends.  He was one of the good guys the world needs more of.  He is already sorely missed.

Derek's family will receive guests at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Thursday, December 22nd, from 2-8 pm.  His funeral ceremony is planned for Friday morning, December 23rd, at 10:00 am, also at Heeney-Sundquist.  Father Mark Brauer will preside.

A procession to Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia, will follow the funeral ceremony.
