Obituary

Dean, of Topinabee, Michigan, peacefully passed into eternal life on Tuesday evening, August 1, 2023, two days shy of his 91st birthday.

Born August 3, 1932, in Detroit, to the late Albert and Florence (Trevarrow) Pollard, Dean had a deep love for his home state, and his life was filled with cherished memories and meaningful contributions.  He earned his Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1955.

Surviving are his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Patricia; devoted children, Linda (Ken) O'Sullivan, Donna (David) Petchell, and Jim (Jody) Pollard; cherished grandchildren, Melissa and Ryan O'Sullivan, Jac, Dean and Julia Rumely, and Jameson, Presley and Brooklyn Pollard; and nephews, Dave and Matt Pollard.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald, on February 16, 2018.

Dean's dedication to his career was evident throughout his life, as he spent his professional years working diligently at GM's Chevrolet Motor Division as an accounting director. His commitment to excellence and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Dean had a heart for service and volunteered for various causes close to his heart. He was actively involved with the YMCA and the Burt Lake Preservation Association, working to make a positive impact on the lives of others and preserve the beauty of his beloved Burt Lake. He was an active member of the Quaker Town Council, embodying the values of compassion, fairness, and justice. He was known for seeing the best in people, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors in need.

A man of many interests, Dean found much joy in spending time at his cherished home on Burt Lake. Whether water skiing, taking refreshing "dips" in the lake, enjoying a game of golf, or going on motorcycle rides, he embraced life with a sense of adventure and optimism.

Dean's adventurous spirit extended beyond Michigan, as he and his family embarked on yearly ski trips to Colorado well into his 80s. Moreover, he treasured the time spent with family and close friends during their Canadian fishing trips, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Dean's strong faith in God was a guiding light throughout his life, providing him with strength, hope, and a positive outlook. Dean's optimism was infectious, and he encouraged his children and grandchildren to seek their own adventures in life, embracing every opportunity with courage and enthusiasm.

A dedicated sports fan, Dean was a faithful Detroit Lions season ticket holder since 1960. Though he may have witnessed many ups and downs with the team, he remained a loyal supporter, cheering them on with unwavering enthusiasm.  Perhaps the Lions will have a winning season with Dean cheering for them with his now-upgraded seats!

Dean leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. He touched the lives of countless people with his generous spirit and warm heart. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

As we say goodbye to Dean, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives and carry on his legacy of optimism, adventure, and love for others. May he rest in peace, knowing that his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Memorial tributes are suggested to the Burt Lake Preservation Association, (blpa.org) in honor of Dean's longtime commitment to this worthwhile organization.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 12 Noon, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, in downtown Farmington.  The Pollard family will receive guests beginning at 10 am.
