David S.
Wojtowicz
May 28, 1942 — Nov 30, 2023
David "Dave" will forever be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was a testament to love, dedication, and joyful moments. Born on May 28, 1942, in Detroit, he departed this world on Thursday morning, November 30, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Dave's journey began at Berkley High School, where in his freshman year, he met the love of his life, Carolyn. Their bond was forged over four years of courtship, culminating in a beautiful union at Berkley First United Methodist Church on September 30, 1961. Their marriage stood strong for an incredible 62 years, a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and unwavering commitment.
A proud Air Force veteran, Dave carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life. His career spanned 40 years at Detroit Diesel, where his hard work and passion left an indelible mark before his well-deserved retirement in 2005.
Dave found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. Camping at Haas Lake in South Lyon held a special place in his heart, where he crafted countless cherished memories surrounded by nature and loved ones. His love for card games, especially canasta, and poker, brought laughter and friendly competition to many gatherings.
Belle Isle held a special allure for Dave, a place that encapsulated his appreciation for beauty and tranquility. His reluctance to fly never hindered his passion for exploration; instead, he traversed the United States by car, relishing in the journey as much as the destinations.
His meticulous care extended beyond his travels to his own yard, where he nurtured a pristine lawn that was a testament to his dedication and love for his home. Known for his ever-present smile and youthful spirit, Dave had a knack for making those around him feel at ease and joyful. His vibrant energy transcended age, always approaching life with a contagious zest.
However, Dave's greatest devotion was to his family. He poured boundless love and unwavering support into his wife, children, and grandchildren. Their home was a sanctuary for their kids' friends, where Dave's warmth and welcoming nature created lasting memories for all who crossed the threshold.
In the hearts of those who knew him, Dave's legacy of love, kindness, and joy will continue to resonate. His laughter and genuine affection for life will be dearly missed but forever treasured.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Carolyn; children, Carrie Gouine, Wendy Morlewski, and Mark Wojtowicz; his brother, Larry (Nancy) Wojtowicz; grandchildren, Scott (fiancée Hanna) Gouine, Chad (fiancée Addie) Gouine, Kyle (Kelsie) Gouine, Matthew Gouine, Brittany (Adam) Williams and Amy Morlewski; and great-grandchildren, Alaya Gouine and Masen Williams. Sadly, Dave was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth "Kenny" (Robin) Wojtowicz, and siblings, Thomas Wojtowicz, Christopher (Polly) Wojtowicz, and Nancy Heffentrager.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home on Monday, December 4, from 3-8 pm.
Dave's funeral ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning, December 5, at 10:30 am (in state at 10:00 am) at Nardin Park United Methodist Church, 29887 West Eleven Mile Road, Farmington Hills.
Memorial tributes are suggested to Boys Town or Nardin Park Church.
Though Dave may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched, forever etched in the beautiful tapestry of memories and love he leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Dave.
