Obituary

David N. Papp, age 72, of Canton, Michigan, passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, at his residence.

David was born on January 29, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Nickalas and Shirley (Bridges) Papp.  He always had a deep love and respect for his parents and siblings, Linda and Tony.  David was close with his Grandmother Helen and enjoyed her Hungarian cooking especially her cabbage rolls, a tradition which his sister Linda continues to this day.

David was a successful entrepreneur at a young age, learning shoe repair at his dad's shop in Garden City, Michigan and eventually owning his own business.  He successfully owned and operated Frontier Bootery in Redford, Michigan for 18 years, which was his greatest accomplishment.

He married Marcella (Marcie) Malanoski on June 22, 1973, at the Memorial Church of Christ in Livonia, Michigan.  David was the proud and loving father of four children, Jason, Vanessa, Jesse, and Laila.  As a family they enjoyed birthday parties, holidays, and Sunday dinners.

David's hobbies included fixing cars, bowling, and playing the violin with his dad.  His love for the violin grew and eventually he taught himself how to make them, including one for his youngest daughter Laila.  David also enjoyed cooking his favorite treats with his children: popcorn balls, crystalized fudge, and egg omelets.

David had a way with words, making funny connections that would make us laugh.  Later in life, he enjoyed watching westerns, football, and gameshows.  He spent time watching the birds and enjoyed the trees and flowers in the backyard.

David is the beloved husband of 52 years to Marcella; cherished father of Jason Papp, Vanessa (David) Lesar, Laila (Lane) Lancaster and the late Jesse Papp (d. 2024); loving grandfather of Brittany (Dustin) Christensen, Amanda (Hayden) Rollins, Sierra Nelson, Matthew Lesar, Isabella Papp and Caprice Papp; great grandfather of Jaxon Summers, Sylvie Christensen, Ryker, Raelyn and Revan Rollins; fond brother of Linda (Gary) Lafon and Tony Papp; dear uncle of Anmarie (Greg) Giff; brother-in-law to Denise Gibbs; uncle and great uncle to several nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, Nickalas and Shirley Papp.

The Papp family will receive guests on Thursday, January 8th, 4-8 pm, at the funeral home.

A funeral service is planned for Friday, January 9th, 10 am, also at the funeral home.

Interment will immediately follow at Parkview Memorial Park Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan.

David's family is grateful for the many expressions of love, support, and prayers.
