David Robert
Kenney
Jul 12, 1955 — Aug 7, 2026
Novi
David Robert Kenney, age 71, of Novi, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 7, 2026.
David was born July 12, 1955, in Detroit, the son of the late George and Jane (Edwards) Kenney Jr. He graduated from Redford Union High School in 1973. On July 29, 1989, David married Maria F. Luscri in Detroit.
Hard-working, creative, and blessed with an exceptional eye for detail, David built a successful career by starting his own painting company, which he operated for more than 35 years. He took great pride in his work and had a natural ability to connect with people. David was charismatic and personable with his customers, and many who first came to know him through business soon became friends. He had a welcoming spirit and a way of making nearly everyone he met feel comfortable and at ease.
David possessed a creative mind and brought that creativity to many areas of his life. He was an excellent gardener who took great pleasure in flowers and in creating beautiful surroundings. His appreciation for craftsmanship and detail extended to his interests in cars and airplanes, both of which fascinated him throughout his life.
His love of golf began remarkably early. At just 12 years old, David began working as a caddie at Western Golf & Country Club, an experience that sparked a lifelong enjoyment of the game.
David was also an animal lover, with a particular affection for dogs, though his compassion extended to animals of every kind. That caring nature reflected the deeply empathetic person he was. He was sensitive to the feelings of others and was often quick to understand when someone needed kindness, encouragement, or simply a friend.
Just as memorable was David's wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh, enjoyed playing pranks on family and friends, and rarely missed an opportunity to bring some fun into the day. Music was another source of enjoyment, especially the sounds of the Beach Boys and the Bee Gees.
David will be remembered as a charismatic, creative, welcoming, and compassionate man—a talented craftsman, devoted gardener, animal lover, golf enthusiast, and good-hearted friend whose customers often became much more than customers. Most of all, he will be remembered for the warmth, humor, and genuine kindness he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Maria; daughters, Alexandra (Mason) Irvin and Cristina (Scot) Fiskars; grandchildren, Amelia, Charlotte and Natalie Irvin; brothers, George H. Kenney, III and Mark (Kim) Kenney and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. Sadly, David was preceded in death by his brother Tom Kenney and sister, Catherine Johnson.
David's family will receive guests on Friday, August 14, beginning at 10 am until the 11 am memorial ceremony, at the funeral home.
Memorial tributes are suggested to the Michigan Humane Society .
Please keep the Kenney family in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
