David Gordon
Drake
May 25, 1956 — Sep 8, 2023
Dave, of Redford, unexpectedly passed into eternal life at his home on Friday, September 8, 2023. He was 67 years old.
Dave was born May 25, 1956, in East Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Donald and Barbara (McMillen) Drake. Following the tragic death of his father, he was lovingly raised by his mother and stepfather, Charles Noe. While serving his country in the US Army and stationed in Germany, he married Karen (Micnerski) on September 24, 1976, and together they enjoyed over 47 years of a wonderful marriage.
Dave began his employment with the Detroit Newspapers followed by ownership of Marty's Tavern, a bar in Southwest Detroit. In 2005, Dave transitioned into his latest position as a field technician for Integrated Security Corp. He enjoyed a long and prosperous career with ISC installing security systems in prisons, nuclear power plants, the CDC, and military bases across the United States.
Dave was a man of many passions, each of which reflected the depth of his character. He could often be found at the casino, where he delighted in playing three-card poker and trying his luck at the slots. These pursuits brought him not only entertainment but also moments of camaraderie with those who shared his interests.
But what truly set Dave apart was his boundless generosity. He had an incredible knack for finding the perfect gifts for friends and family, often making his purchases at his beloved Costco. His giving nature was his "love language," and he derived immense joy from bringing smiles to the faces of his friends and family.
In addition to his love for his family, Dave was a longtime proud member and tireless supporter of the Masons and Shriners, dedicating his time and energy to fundraising for their noble causes. Moreover, his carpentry skills were nothing short of amazing, and he used them to improve his own home as well as teach and assist others with their own projects. He was a man of many talents and believed in making the world a better place.
Dave had a wide range of interests, from his fondness for crime shows and Judge Judy to his love for animals. His Christmases were truly unforgettable, filled with warmth, laughter, and the true joy of giving.
Above all else, Dave was a genuine, loving, thoughtful, and devoted husband, father, and grampy. His family was the center of his world, and he showed his love in countless ways, making every moment special.
Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and strive to carry forward his spirit of giving and love.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; children, Sheila (Ryan) Larkins and David (Jennifer) Drake; cherished grandchildren, Paige, Amber, and Aiden Drake; brothers, Donald Drake and Gregory Noe; sisters, Cheryl Nigg and Pamela Ruiz; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen (Jacque) Noe, and a sister, Linda (Mike) Peters.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 20, from 1-8 pm, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home in downtown Farmington. The Olive Branch #542 Masonic Lodge will conduct a memorial ceremony at 7 pm.
Dave's funeral ceremony is planned for Thursday morning, September 21, at 10:30 am, also at Heeney-Sundquist. Todd Lipa, LFC, will preside.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Dave's memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Rest in peace, Dave, for your love and light will forever shine in our hearts.
