Obituary

Daniel Louis Andrews, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2023, in Michigan after a short illness.

Daniel was born October 28, 1929, to the late Louis and Nellie Andrews in Dearborn, Michigan.  The youngest of five siblings, he grew up in a warm, loving, close knit Lebanese family. As a student, he excelled in academics and athletics, graduating in 1947 from Highland Park High School. He worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for one year, followed by one year in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1949 and rejoined Michigan Bell as a lineman.

Dan met the love of his life, Helen June Varga, on a blind date in 1952 and married three months later. That began a beautiful love story lasting a lifetime. They moved to Livonia and raised three children Carol, David, and Cynthia.  Family was everything to Daniel and he worked extra weekends to take extended camping vacations, especially for that first long trip out west in 1964.  Exploring the U.S from shore to shore in their pickup camper, they often took the road less travelled. This gave the family many rich experiences and incredible memories.

Dan enjoyed his career in management and welcomed retirement in 1983 after thirty-five years with Michigan Bell. Soon after, Dan and Helen adopted Florida as their winter home, eventually becoming full time residents in 2011.  They lived a wonderful and meaningful life together particularly after settling in Florida. They loved having family and friends visit and showing them the sites of their beloved Jensen Beach. Travel remained an enjoyable part of their lives with favorite trips to San Bernardino, Las Vegas, St. Paul, Suttons Bay, Alaska, and cruising the Caribbean.

Dan was not one to stay idle and he put his self-taught construction and home repair skills to good use. He was a true gentleman, always helping someone with a project or repair and he never accepted money but would simply say " do something nice for somebody else." Dan and Helen loved their sunny Florida life as he described in a letter home. "Being here is like a six-month vacation for us. Pool time, softball, card games, dinner dances, shows, shopping, shooting pool, socializing with friends and laying out at the beach.  Hurry up and join us."  Always smiling, never complaining, he lived out his faith in God every day, embracing life's simple blessings. Dan was a treasure to all who knew and loved him. Our deepest gratitude to our Florida neighborhood family… Starr and Rij, Willow and pup Frank, Bud, Paddi and Gary who lived, loved and laughed with Dan and Helen, making memories as only family can.

Daniel will be so deeply missed. His legacy and endearing love lives on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.  He was preceded in death by his wife Helen June (Varga).  Daniel is survived by his three children and their families; Carol Andrews and (Charles Ferguson), David Andrews and (Barbara), and Cynthia Andrews and (Scott Sumner); and five beautiful grandchildren: Tyler Andrews, Rachel Ferguson (Zachary Nowicki fiancé), Connor Ferguson, Hannah Sumner, and Emily Sumner.  He was predeceased by his siblings, George, Edward, Ann, and Birdie.
