Obituary

In Loving Memory of Craig Elliot Chapman, a beloved Brother, Uncle, and friend

It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Craig late Sunday evening, December 31, 2023, at the age of 67. He surpassed all expectations, living a long life filled with love, joy, and lasting impressions on the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.

Craig was born on March 7, 1956, in Highland Park, to the late John and Elizabeth (Grobbel) Chapman.  Born with developmental disabilities, Craig faced each day with a smile and an indomitable spirit. He not only defied many odds but radiated a unique and enduring love that endeared him to people he met.  His loving nature touched the lives of his family, friends, and the communities in which he resided during his life.

As a brother and uncle, Craig's curious spirit brought joy to his family, and his presence lit up family gatherings. He particularly loved attending family weddings, where he danced the night away, bringing laughter and warmth to the celebrations. Christmas held a special place in his heart, and he looked forward to the holiday season, cherishing the tradition of giving and receiving, especially a new wallet filled with money or cards containing postage stamps.  He was known to thoughtfully prepare for Christmas by making a variety of crafts to gift to those celebrating the holidays with him.

Craig was not only a receiver of love and care, but also a giver. He cherished the opportunity to send greeting cards to his many family members and friends and often called simply to check-in.

In his lifetime, Craig was the recipient of wonderful care from his family. Their support, compassion, and devotion made a significant difference later in Craig's life, allowing him to live a life of safety, comfort, and dignity.

Craig's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. His love, kindness, and joy for life will be cherished and remembered fondly. May he find eternal peace with his parents whom he missed dearly and rest in a place where love knows no bounds.

Rest in peace, dear Craig, knowing that you were loved and enjoyed, and will be forever missed.

Surviving are Craig's siblings, Sally Rogind, Thomas (Carol) Chapman, Kenneth (Pat) Chapman, David (Elaine) Chapman, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Craig was preceded in death by a brother, James (the late Verna) Chapman, in 2012.

Craig's family will gather privately prior to his interment at Acacia Park Cemetery, Beverly Hills.

Memorial tributes are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association .
