Obituary

Charles J. "Chuck" Hoff, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2026, in Livonia, Michigan. Born on October 14, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Chuck lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, and faith. Chuck graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows in 1959 and embarked on a journey of service and hard work. At just 17 years old, he joined the United States Navy. After completing his military service, Chuck pursued a career as a lathe operator. In 1966, at work, he noticed Dorothea "Jerry," Cahill, a vivacious woman who would become his wife.

After meeting Jerry, he began studying the Bible with her despite initially struggling with stuttering and bristling at God's name, Jehovah. Over time, he grew to love the profound meaning of that name and was baptized in 1972 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. From that time forward faith played an integral part of his life.

His dedication to his faith led him to join the Theocratic Ministry School, where he overcame his stuttering by learning to give short talks—a testament to his perseverance and spiritual growth.

Chuck faced significant health challenges throughout his life but met them with faith, strength and determination.
He underwent two open-heart bypass surgeries at the Texas Heart Institute's bloodless surgery unit—the first at age 38 and the second at age 53. Despite these trials, he remained steadfast in his positivity and gratitude for life.

Golf was another passion he pursued for many years.

Chuck lost Jerry in 2008. After he regained his footing, he spent much time in the ministry visiting neighbors and speaking of the good news of God's incoming world government.

He also conducted meetings for field service multiple times per week. This gave him great joy.

Once COVID hit in 2020, his health declined, yet he spent much time in letter writing activities still sharing that good news.

Despite severe arthritis, he maintained beautiful handwriting.  He was an avid note taker as well.

Chuck is survived by his sisters Mary Ann Waack (Ralph; deceased) and Janet Herman (Lloyd); his children Charles P. Hoff (Kris), Luwetta Hoff; stepsons David Hoff and Danny Hoff; and close nephew Ralph Waack Jr.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jerry; his brother William R. Hoff Sr.; and his parents Charles W. Hoff and Eleanor Kuehler Hoff.

Those who knew Chuck remember him as a kind-hearted man who never spoke ill of anyone—a quality that endeared him to all who crossed his path. His legacy of kindness, faith, and resilience will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. May Chuck's memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
