Carol E. Matthews, 84, passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday, March 28, 2024, at American House in Farmington Hills, where she had resided for the past two years.
Carol was born December 27, 1939, in Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Peters) Gould.
Carol was a woman of unwavering faith, devout in her Catholic beliefs, and found solace in her spirituality throughout her life. Carol was known for her determination and unwavering resolve. In every aspect of her life, she approached challenges with courage and tenacity, never faltering in her pursuit of her goals.
Carol's enthusiasm and positive outlook were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. She had a remarkable ability to find joy in even the smallest of moments and spread that joy to those around her.
Above all else, Carol was devoted to her family. Her love knew no bounds, and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting her loved ones. Whether it was through her comforting presence, words of wisdom, or acts of kindness, she touched the lives of many with her boundless love.
Professionally, Carol worked as a Real Estate Agent, where her dedication and passion for helping others shone brightly. Her commitment to her clients was unparalleled, and she approached her work with integrity and compassion.
Carol is the beloved wife of the late Patrick (d. 1999); loving mother of Shawn (Anna) Matthews, Michael (Kristine) Matthews, the late Patrick, Jr. (d. 2005), and the late Mary Anne Matthews-Cooper (d. 2012); cherished grandmother of Brittney Anne Matthews, Cody Matthews, Jeremy Cooper, Ian Cooper, Ella Matthews, and Jack Matthews, dear sister of Mary Ann (the late John) Kelly, and the late Donald and Robert Gould.
Carol's family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 2, from 2-7:30 pm, with a 7 pm Rosary, at the funeral home.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, 10 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Road, Farmington.
Interment will immediately follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
Memorial tributes are suggested to the Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament , 29575 Middlebelt Rd., Farmington Hills, 48334.
