Obituary

Bridget "Bridie" Flynn was born December 31, 1935, in County Mayo, Ireland, and passed on December 29th, 2025, in Livonia, Michigan.

During the first five years of her life, she was raised by Grandma Dunleavey until she passed, and thereafter by Packy and Briedge Dunleavy in the town of Bohola.  When she was in her late teens, she was sponsored by the Dunleavy family of Michigan to start a new chapter in her life. She was known for her independence and courage amongst all things.  She often spoke of these adventurous early years spent meeting friends, creating her family unit, and a new life for herself.  She was eager to join the workforce and create a life for herself.   She took great pride in telling the story of her job quest, finding her way to Detroit's tallest building, and finding not one but three job opportunities in one day.  This is just a small glimpse of her determination and tenacious spirit.  During these early years, she created her community of family and friends through the love and support of both the Dunleavy and Flynn families who she was forever grateful.  This, in time, would eventually be how she met the love of her life, "my Tom," playing volleyball at Camp Dearborn.

Bridie and Tom married on October 10th, 1964, at St. James Catholic Church.   She became a citizen of the United States on March 16th, 1966, the same month she had her first child, Colleen.  Within the next few years, her second child, Sean, was born, and the family built their home and started roots in Livonia, Michigan.  Above all things, she cherished her family more than anything.  She lived for her children and eventually her grandchildren and talked about them with great pride.  She was a devout Catholic and spent many volunteer hours with both her children's schools' PTA and the church, and was a bit of a hockey fan.

Although she gained the new colors of red, white, and blue to her orange, green, and white, she always wore her heritage on her sleeve with the utmost pride.  She was incredibly active in the Detroit United Irish society.  Bridie and her husband planned and coordinated the Maid of Erin Pageant for years, which elected the Queen and her Court for the annual St Patrick's Day Detroit Parade. She served on the Board of Directors for the Catherine McAuley Division of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) for many years, a position that gave her great pride and appreciation for the many cherished relationships she made.  Bridie and her husband, Tom, were recognized as the Pallottine Man and Woman of the Year, and later the Grand Marshalls of Detroit's annual Saint Patrick's Day parade in 2014.  This was an honor that meant the world to her, knowing her contributions and dedication to her heritage were recognized and valued.

Bridie is survived by her two children, Colleen (John) Pilch and Sean (Lisa) Flynn, and her five grandchildren, Keagan, Mia, Amanda, Christina, and Giavanna.  Due to Bridie's love for privacy, the family will be holding a private ceremony in the coming days, as she would have insisted.  In lieu of attendance, kindly keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.  We all find peace knowing that Bridie and "my Tom" are reunited once again.  Happy heavenly birthday, Bridie!

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are kindly suggested to the Irish Pallottine Fathers , 424 Orange St, Wyandotte, MI 48192.
