Brian J.
Hand
Jul 9, 1959 — Oct 24, 2023
Livonia
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Hand, a man whose life was a testament to love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family and friends. Brian passed away early Tuesday morning, following a lengthy illness, at the age of 64.
Brian was born July 9, 1959, at Providence Hospital in Detroit to the late Hon. Michael and Eileen (Gallagher) Hand. He married Susan M. (Hayes) on November 9, 1985, at St. Gerald Catholic Church, Farmington. Sadly, Sue preceded Brian in death on November 29, 2018.
Brian was an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of everyone he met. With a heart full of warmth and a spirit that never waned, he had a remarkable ability to engage people. He was an animated and social soul, known for his boisterous laugh and the "Irish gift to gab" that he shared generously with those around him.
One of the defining qualities that endeared Brian to so many was his capacity for forming deep and meaningful connections. He had an uncanny ability to bond with his caregivers, demonstrating his gratitude and appreciation for their dedication and care during his illness. His "old soul" nature made him a sentimental and nostalgic individual who loved to reminisce about the cherished moments in his life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of sharing those memories with him.
Brian had a passion for the card game Euchre, and he would play it with such enthusiasm that it became an unforgettable part of his social gatherings. It was through these gatherings that he demonstrated his love for socializing and bringing people together.
He was a devoted companion to his beloved dog, Millie, and her passing in June left an immense void in his heart. Brian's love extended far beyond his four-legged friend, however, as he knew how to love deeply and completely. His children, grandchildren, and siblings held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. The loss of his wife, Sue, in 2018, was a heartbreak that he carried with him every day, a testament to the depth of his love for her.
Brian's life was a combination of love, family, and friendship. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and a deep sense of connection that will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of being touched by his remarkable spirit.
Brian's spirit may have left us, but his life will echo in our hearts for all time. Rest in peace, dear Brian. You will be missed and lovingly remembered.
Surviving are Brian's two beloved children, Emily (William) Jones and Shawn (Amber) Hand; cherished grandchildren, Ryker, Rylynn and Kaladin Jones, Lucas Hand, and another baby girl Jones expected in November; devoted siblings, Patricia (the late Douglas) Michaud, Sheila (Gary) Gardner, Mary Kay (Jim) Landsberg, Michael (Laura) Hand, Jr., Eileen (Peter) Doyle, and the late Kevin Hand; 21 nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather for visitation at Heeney-Sundquist on Monday, October 30, from 2-8 pm, with a 7 pm rosary.
Brian's funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning, October 31, at 10:00 am (in state 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Park, Livonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the T.S.C. Alliance.
Kindly keep Brian and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
