Bette A. Christie, age 89, of Farmington Hills, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at her residence.

Bette was born February 17, 1934, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, the daughter of Elton and Luella (Koch) Boettcher.  She received her bachelor's degree in chemistry and was employed by the Institute of Paper Chemistry.

Bette is survived by her son, Hugh (Jennifer) Wabers; grandchildren, Rachael (Jack) Zwettler and Christiaan Wabers; great grandchildren, Josie and Elyse Zwettler; stepchildren, Curtis Christie, John Christie, and Linda Kalmbach. Sadly, Bette was preceded in death by husbands, Frank D. Wabers and Robert E. Christie, and sister, Janice Robertson.

Bette enjoyed crafting with nature, as is shown in her vast sea shell collection and her delicately made pressed flower bookmarks and notes. She also enjoyed stamp collecting, filling large books with unique stamps. She believed in education, and spent time keeping up with current events.

A devoted mother and in circumstances that were especially challenging in her day, Bette raised her son on her own, supporting him and making sure that he pursued higher education and an independent life.

Of special note was her deep friendship, love and gratitude for support in her best friend in later life-Ann Strong. Ann gave Bette the greatest gift of care, companionship and the opportunity to fulfill her wish of leaving this world from her own home.
