Obituary

Barbara, of Farmington, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal life on Sunday, June 2nd, at Ascension Providence Hospital, Novi.  She was 83 years old and leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and selfless service. Her life was a testament to the power of a servant's heart, marked by patience, kindness, and unwavering friendship.

Barbara was born August 14, 1940, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late William and Ruth (Linnemann) Phillips.  She married Lawrence "Larry" Stitzel on September 9, 1961, at St. William Catholic Church in Cincinnati.  Sadly, Larry preceded her in death on November 11, 2013.  Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Scott, on January 5, 2009.

Barbara's devotion to her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life. As an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Farmington, she generously volunteered her time and talents across numerous church groups, embodying the spirit of community and service.

A supportive mother, Barbara fostered independence in her children, encouraging them to grow and thrive with confidence. Her own life was a reflection of this independence, as she navigated the world with strength and self-reliance.

Barbara's talents as a seamstress and upholsterer were remarkable, transforming ordinary fabrics into beautiful creations. Her skill and artistry were matched only by her generosity in sharing these gifts with others.

Barbara's memory is one marked by love, faith, and dedication to those she held dear. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift, a beacon of light and love in the hearts of those she touched.

Barbara is survived by her loving children, Linda (Jeff) Hagan, Beverly (Jim) Stitzel, Mary Kay Stitzel, and Jeff Stitzel; grandchildren, Craig (Cara) Everts, Chelsea Stitzel, Austin Stitzel, Madison Stitzel, Miranda Stitzel, Matthew (Kristina) Stitzel, Justin Stitzel, Madeleine Hagan, Elly Hagan, and Henry Hagan; great-grandchildren, Arthur, Bennett, and Mason; siblings, Mary Lynne (Bob) Rapien, William (Mary Lynn) Phillips, and Tom (Marianne) Phillips; as well as a host of additional family and friends.

Family and friends may gather for Barbara's funeral mass on Monday morning, June 10, at 10:00 am (visitation from 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Another Way Pregnancy Center, Farmington Hills (please memo: "For Life").
