Obituary

Arlene Sills, age 90, formerly of Livonia, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 23, 2024, at Pomeroy Living in Northville.

Arlene was born June 27, 1933, the daughter of the late Mary and Angelo Angerilli.  She grew up in Detroit, Michigan where she met Robert at a friend's party and the rest is history. In 1952, they married at the Catholic cathedral in Charleston, South Carolina, where Robert was stationed in the Navy, and lived there for 3 years before returning to Detroit. They bought their first home in Redford Township, 2 houses away from her parents and she was the office manager for the township water department until their youngest daughter was born.

In 1964, the family moved to Livonia where Arlene flourished.  Very active in politics, she was known to work endless hours making tally boards and working late into the night tallying votes. A lover of baking, she learned to decorate cakes and won several competitions. She was fondly known as the "cake lady"! In addition to cakes, she was known for making delicious (and beautiful) cookies, pies and cannoli. She was an amazing cook and was well known for her pasta dishes. Arlene was also active in a couple of bowling leagues and enjoyed playing Bingo. She and Robert were long-time parishioners at St. Aidan's Catholic Church.

In 1969. Robert and Arlene bought their dream "cottage" on Hubbard Lake. In the early years, she would spend hours frying up fish and, occasionally, would go out and catch a few herself. One of her prized possessions was a trophy she won in a Pike fishing contest, beating out all the men! Not a water lover herself, Arlene enjoyed watching her girls, then grandchildren, then great grandchildren enjoy swimming, tubing, and boating.

In 2019, they moved to Abbey Park in New Hudson where they made many friends, hosted a New Year's Eve party, played bingo, went on outings, and just enjoyed life. After Robert passed away in 2023, Assisting Hands caregivers provided support for Arlene and she was blessed to have them. She traveled to her granddaughter's wedding in Seattle, lovingly referred to as her "last hoorah". She looked beautiful that evening, "wheelchair danced" and was the belle of the ball.

Upon returning from the trip, God had a bigger plan for Arlene. In January, she moved to Pomeroy Living in Northville where she received excellent care, attention, and was just loved up. Special thank you to the wonderful caregivers at Pomeroy Living Northville and Accent Hospice for their kindness during her journey. Arlene passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed...
