Obituary

Ames Koppe Davis, age 95, a longtime resident of Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on April 6, 2025.

Ames was born to Leo and Shirley Davis on November 21, 1929, in Dayton, Ohio. He met the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy" Davis, in a moment they would never forget -during a double date wherein Peggy happened to be with someone else. Ames knew almost instantly that Peggy was the one, and the two were married on February 2, 1952. Together, they built a beautiful life, sharing 64 years of love and devotion. Their enduring partnership remained strong until Peggy's passing on May 17, 2016.

Ames was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he served his country with pride and integrity until his honorable discharge. Though he rarely spoke of his time in the military, his service left a lasting impact, instilling a deep sense of duty, discipline, and honor. After his military service, Ames pursued higher education at Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1952. A loyal Boilermaker, Ames remained a passionate Purdue sports fan throughout his life, rarely missing a football or basketball game.

After graduating from Purdue, Ames went on to build a successful career by establishing his own business as a manufacturer's representative. He specialized in selling electrical and electronic components, serving clients in the military, electronic, and automotive industries. Though his work required frequent travel, Ames remained a deeply devoted father, rarely missing his children's baseball and basketball games, track, or swim meets. His quiet pride and unwavering support were constants in his children's lives. Throughout the years, Ames also opened his heart and home to three golden retrievers—Shannon, Yogi, and Misty—each a faithful friend who brought joy, comfort, and companionship during different chapters of his life.

In retirement, Ames found peace in the beauty of the Smoky Mountains. He embraced the quiet rhythm of the hills and the comfort of time spent with his beloved wife and visiting family. It was a place of rest, reflection, and cherished moments for his entire family.

Ames is survived by his loving children, Kevin (Linda), Neil (Jamie), Eric (Michelle), and Craig (Melissa); adored grandchildren, Carolyn (Michael) Estornell, Hannah (Zachary) McDonough, Garrett, Ryann, Griffin, Claire, Colin, Ella, and Slayden and adored great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Miles, Sadie and Zachary, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Road, Ann Arbor, MI  48105, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105, would be greatly appreciated.
