Obituary

Alex Persondek was impossible to sum up in words, but if you knew him, you knew—his sharp wit, his ridiculous sense of humor, the way he could make any moment feel lighter just by being in it. He had the kind of mind that could keep up with anyone, whether he was debating anime theories with his brother Sean, playing chess, or cracking a perfectly timed joke that left everyone in tears from laughter. He was brilliant but never boastful, kind but never insincere, and effortlessly charismatic in a way that made people feel at ease in his presence.

He met the love of his life, Michaela Stapleton, in high school, and from then on, it was them against the world. They spent over a decade together, growing up side by side, building a life filled with love, adventure, and an endless supply of inside jokes. Their relationship was built on deep understanding, shared dreams, and an unwavering bond that couldn't be broken—not by time, not by distance, not by anything.

Alex loved the world in a way that made you want to love it, too. He found peace in nature, whether he was hiking, canoeing, or just sitting under the stars. He cared deeply about animals, about the earth, about the people he loved. He had a soft spot for his pets, Shadow and Sabrina, and a knack for making every space feel like home.

To his friends, he was the one who always showed up. The one who never forgot a birthday, who made every gathering funnier, who knew exactly how to be there when you needed him. To his family, he was fiercely loyal, always full of love and support. To Michaela, he was everything.

His absence is immeasurable, but so is the impact he left behind. His love, his laughter, his presence will never fade from the lives he touched. If you'd like to honor him, consider a donation to Detroit Inspiring Connections Outdoors or the Sierra Club—because Alex believed in protecting the beauty of the world, and if he could, he would've spent forever exploring it.

Alex is survived by his wife, Michaela; his parents, Helen (Dennis) and Bill (Stephanie); his brothers, Miles, Andy (Moriah), and Sean; his nephews, Hunter, Lucas, Dean, Colton, and Theodore; his mother-in-law, Tina Meade; his siblings-in-law, Drew (Joe) Meade and Sheldon Meade; and many beloved friends and family members.
