Albert E.
Devic, Jr.
Sep 5, 1928 — Jan 22, 2023
Plymouth
Albert E. DeVic, Jr., age 94, of Livonia, went to be with his Lord and Savior 0n Sunday, January 22, 2023.
Albert was born in Detroit on September 5, 1928, to Albert (Sr.) and Ellen (Barber) DeVic. He graduated from Redford High School and Henry Ford Trade School in 1946. Later, Albert served his country in the Naval Reserves and went on to graduate from Detroit Institute of Technology in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Albert enjoyed a long career as a pharmacist working alongside his pharmacist father at DeVic Drugs in Detroit for many of those years. Al also worked as a pharmacist at J.L. Hudson, Farmer Jack, Cunningham's and K-Mart.
Albert married Virginia (Ann Meek) DeVic in 1949. He and Ginny were married for 63 years until she preceded him in death in 2012. During their many happy years together Al and Ginny, aside from being loving parents and grandparents, traveled widely and became active in the City of Livonia. Later Al was admirably recognized for his dozen years serving the City of Livonia as an Election Inspector, as a contributing member of the Livonia Historical Society, as a leader and participant of the Livonia Early Risers Kiwanis Club, and as an active member of the Livonia Senior Center. Many weekday mornings found him playing very competitive ping pong and pool, only to 'relax' in the afternoon with chair exercise, yoga or Bingo! Albert also proudly received a Key to the City of Livonia from Mayor Dennis Wright on his 90 th birthday.
Al and Ginny attended Village Presbyterian Church together for years with Albert serving as both a Deacon and an ordained Elder. They went on to transfer to Ward EPC Church in Livonia where Al served, up until very recently, as one of the Captains of the Counting Team. His happy and faith-filled countenance will be missed in the hallways of Ward Church.
Albert was the proud and loving father of Sandra Milis (Gary) and Judy Nelson (Chris). He cherished his grandchildren; Chris Ockerman and his wife Amy, Matt Ockerman and wife Marissa, and Tim (Allison), Steven (Morgan), Andrew (Beth) and Peter (Carly) Nelson. Al was the great grandfather of Seth and Emma Ockerman, Colton and Hunter Lee, Eli, Hadley and Abe Nelson; Behr, Lucia, and Koa Garen Nelson; and Liam Avery Nelson. Albert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Helen DeVic Sieberth (2015), and infant grandson David Edward Nelson in 1984.
Visitation and a Service of Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 40000 Six Mile Rd., Northville, MI.48168.
The family will receive friends and guests beginning at 10am. The Service of Celebration will start at 12noon. (In the Chapel)
A private interment will take place at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Albert's name may be directed to Ward EPC, (Missions Outreach) at the above address, or to The New Wilmington Mission Conference , 229 S. Market St., New Wilmington, PA 16142.
Please keep the DeVic family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
