Obituary

William O. Bliss, age 87, Lt Col ret. US Army, passed away at home on Dec. 10, 2008. Born in Jonesville, MI, on Dec. 6, 1921, he was a longtime Farmington resident.

He received his commission as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army in December of 1943, proudly served in Pattons 3rd Army in Europe from June, 1944, until June of 1946. Upon returning home, he served for 28 years in the Army Reserve.

He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Civil Engineering, but spent most of his life as a real estate appraiser, both as the Chief Appraiser for the Veterans Administration, and for the past 46 years, as President of William O. Bliss and Associates.

He was especially proud of three things: his family, his country, and the fact that he never retired. He maintained an office at home and still worked regularly until just months before his death.

Mr. Bliss also worked tirelessly for his community. He was a charter member of the Farmington Rotary, never missing a meeting for over 20 years and receiving the Paul Harris Award for exceptional service three times. He was a member of the Masons, the American Legion, and his beloved Farmington Elks, Lodge #1986, where he served as PER and Past District Deputy to the Grand Exalted Ruler.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Wilma; his loving children, Susan (Robert) Pearce, Bill (Ginger) Bliss and Steven (Marian) Bliss; cherished grandchildren, Adam and Abby Bliss and Connie (Larry) Babb; great grandchildren, Jackson and Matthew Babb; and many, many additional family and good friends.

Bill's family will receive guests on Sunday, December 14th, 3-8 PM, with a 7 PM Elks Lodge of Sorrows Service, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington.

A Funeral Service is planned for Monday, Dec. 15th, 12 Noon, also at the Funeral Home.

Memorial tributes suggested to Farmington Elks Major Projects Fund, 30898 Ten Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, 48336, or the Rotary Foundation.
